Tsetsonova leads the match with 5 Aces
Coppin State University’s Volleyball team proves once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. The lady eagles lead an impressive match against Norfolk State University as each team was on a wining streak for the past few matches. Coppin’s win against Morgan State University last week had the eagles at a 3-0 lead, and this winning match puts them at 4-0.. As the season started the lady eagles currently stand at 13-7.
First set of the match, the Eagles started off strong with Senior, Andrea Tsetsonova, putting out four aces that had Norfolk state stumbling and trying to catch up. Tsetsonova has been dominating since the season started, and she now has 63 service aces to her volleyball career.
Norfolk bounced back during the first set, but Coppin stood firm to win the first set 25-17. Freshman defensive specialist, Kennedy Beatty, had powerful serves that kept the eagles on a steady pace for the second set of the match.
The second set started off very tense as Norfolk State came with a vengeance as they led with 4 points at the start of the set. The audience was on edge sharing the frustrations of the players and coaches with some misses in the game. Senior outside hitter, Miajavon Coleman, blocked in the beginning, set into motion a thrilling game for the viewers.
The teams all had their concentration on this set as Norfolk had the score bouncing back and forth for both teams. Even though it was a close set, the Eagles managed to win 25-22.
Last set of the match had the fans eager for how the set will play out. Graduate student, Ammaarah Williams, dealt amazing kills that had Norfolk stumbling and trying to catch up.
The Lady Eagles kept up the points, but Norfolk kept them on their toes with some back to back points throughout the set. With one point left to win the match, Williams handled the kill with it coming from Tsetsonova for the set ending in 25-19.
The Volleyball team plays Howard University at 1:00 pm on Sunday on Howard’s home court. Be sure to tune and support our Eagles as they defend their winning streak and first place in the conference.
